Episode 8
Part 40: The Road to Bathsheba
Over a month had passed since Jadon first set foot on the island, and it had been nothing short of a revelation. For all his research and preparation, nothing could have prepared him for the unexpected charm of Barbados, a land that seemed to offer endless surprises.
The early Sunday morning drive was one such surprise. Jadon cruised along narrow roads that cut through endless sugar cane fields, their green stalks swaying gently in the breeze. The fields stretched endlessly in every direction, like a perfectly manicured quilt of green that blanketed the island's plains.
The road twisted and turned, creating the sense of navigating a giant maze of natural beauty. Jadon found himself slowing down to take in the scenery, glancing up occasionally to marvel at the delicate interplay of golden sunlight breaking through the clouds. It was a sight worth capturing, something he rarely thought about before but now couldn’t resist.
His thoughts drifted briefly to Nikki and her recent insistence that he start building a presence on social media. He smirked, thinking of her exasperated lectures about “building a brand.” He’d shrugged it off at first, but now, staring at the vibrant countryside, he couldn’t deny the appeal.
The GPS directed him eastward, and Jadon noticed a subtle shift in the terrain. The air grew cooler, and the flat expanse of the fields gave way to rolling hills. The road narrowed further, and he paid extra attention to its uneven surface, avoiding potholes while his car bumped along.
As the elevation rose, he felt the change in his surroundings. The air seemed fresher, carrying a faint scent of salt that hinted at the sea. Jadon glanced at the map on his dashboard, he was getting closer to Bathsheba, a place he had only seen in pictures but already knew would be breathtaking.
Then, the landscape opened up dramatically. Jadon reached a ridge that revealed a panoramic view of Bathsheba below. He pulled over instinctively, stepping out of the car to take in the scene.
It was like stepping into another world.
The lush greenery of the hills gave way to a rugged coastline dotted with massive limestone boulders, each shaped by centuries of crashing waves. The flora was wild and untamed; tall palms swayed alongside clusters of sea grape trees, their large, waxy leaves catching the morning sun. Delicate ferns blanketed the ground, their vibrant green a striking contrast to the white, coral and limestone rocks that dotted the landscape.
The sea stretched endlessly beyond, its surface alive with movement. Bathsheba was known for its waves… huge, frothing, and relentless. Each wave curled and crashed with ferocious energy, sending up sprays of white mist that shimmered like diamonds in the sunlight. Jadon could see why surfers loved this place; the waves seemed to dance with a rhythm all their own, untamed and hypnotic.
Farther down, the famous "Soup Bowl" stood out, an iconic surf spot framed by jagged rock formations and tide pools that sparkled in the light. The beach itself was different from the west coast’s calm, golden sands. Here, the sand was coarser, and the rocks jutting out of the water gave the coastline an almost alien feel.
Jadon took a deep breath, letting the salty breeze fill his lungs. He snapped a quick photo, capturing the dramatic contrast of the rocky shore, the vibrant greenery, and the churning waves. This was a moment worth sharing.
The GPS beeped, signaling he was only five minutes away from his destination. Jadon climbed back into his car, the excitement building as he descended toward Bathsheba. He could see hints of life along the coast… colorful houses perched on the hills, locals strolling along the beach, and the occasional surfer riding the morning waves.
As he approached the meeting point, Jadon thought back to Nadia's invitation. This shoot was going to be something special, he could feel it. And now, surrounded by the untamed beauty of Bathsheba, he knew it was a day he wouldn’t forget.
Part 41: Through the Lens
Jadon spotted Nadia’s car parked along a patch of grass near the beach, and just beyond it, there she was already immersed in her work. She was crouched slightly, camera in hand, directing her subject with quiet confidence.
Two women accompanied her. The first, standing beside Nadia and observing, appeared to be in her mid-thirties. She had a light brown complexion, a tall, statuesque figure with curves that commanded attention, and blonde hair wrapped in a vibrant bandanna that popped against the natural backdrop. Her posture exuded a seasoned poise that hinted at her experience in front of the camera.
The younger woman Nadia was photographing was strikingly different. No older than twenty, she had a medium brown complexion and shoulder-length, permed black hair that framed her youthful, round face. What truly made her stand out, though, were her captivating light brown eyes; soft, shy, and deeply expressive. She was a natural beauty, wearing minimal makeup in contrast to the other woman’s bold, polished look. Despite her alluring features, she seemed hesitant, almost uncomfortable under the scrutiny of the lens.
The shoot paused as Jadon approached. The two women gestured to Nadia, who turned to see him. Her calm, measured movements carried an inviting energy, and when she smiled, it was as though the world around her softened.
"You made it," she said warmly, lowering her camera. "I wasn’t sure you would."
"What do you mean?" Jadon teased. "I’m a man of my word."
"Apparently so," she replied, her tone playful but her gaze unwavering, locking onto his. Her dark, radiant skin seemed to glow in the morning light, her eyes bright and alive, her smile effortlessly mesmerizing. Jadon blinked, feeling a momentary need to look away from her intensity.
Nadia turned slightly, motioning toward the women. "Oh, this is Tina," she said, gesturing to the older model, "and that’s Tamika."
"Hi," the two sang in unison, their voices light and melodic.
Nadia smiled again, turning back to Jadon. "We’re just wrapping up, so sit tight."
"You mean I missed the shoot?" Jadon mock-grumbled, folding his arms.
"Early bird," she quipped without missing a beat, smirking at him as she adjusted her camera for another shot.
"Gets the worm," Jadon mumbled under his breath, finishing the phrase as he leaned against a massive rock. He felt a bit deflated at arriving too late to see the session in full swing, but he couldn't deny the pleasure of just being there, soaking in the serene energy of Bathsheba and Nadia’s undeniable presence.
He watched as Nadia shifted seamlessly between encouraging Mika and offering technical adjustments to Tina. She seemed to have a way of pulling out the best in her subjects, guiding them with a calm authority that didn’t demand but rather inspired confidence.
After another twenty minutes of shooting, Nadia clapped her hands once, signaling the end of the session. "That’s a wrap, ladies," she announced. The women cheered lightly, relaxing from their poses as Nadia lowered her camera with satisfaction.
Jadon walked up as the models began gathering their things. "Great work, I guess," he teased, a smirk playing on his lips.
"You guess?" Nadia shot back, raising an eyebrow.
"I mean, I didn’t see much," he replied, feigning disappointment.
"You’ll see the photos," she countered, her tone playful but her expression proud. "Then you’ll know it was great work."
Tina walked over, extending a hand toward Jadon. "Nice meeting you, Jadon," she said, her voice smooth and confident.
"You too," he replied, shaking her hand.
Mika followed, giving him a shy smile and a small wave. "Bye," she said softly before joining Tina.
As the models departed, Jadon turned to Nadia. "So, what now?"
Nadia shrugged, packing her camera into its case. "Breakfast," she said simply.
"Breakfast, huh?" Jadon echoed.
"You’re in luck," Nadia replied, tossing her bag over her shoulder. "I know just the place. Follow me."
Jadon nodded, smiling as he fell into step beside her. It seemed that, despite his late arrival, the day was only just beginning.
Part 42: Tide Pool
Jadon followed Nadia’s car up a winding hillside road, the lush greenery and sea breezes adding a sense of adventure to the morning. As they crested the hill, he spotted a small, rustic rum shop nestled on the ridge, overlooking the panoramic coastline below. He parked his Jimny behind her and stepped out, soaking in the breathtaking view.
“Rum shop this early, Ms. Gibson?” Jadon teased with a raised eyebrow as they walked inside.
“Oh, so formal,” she quipped, giving him a playful smirk. “I’m taking you back in time. No pancakes today. We’re having bakes and fish cakes.”
“Bring it on!” he replied enthusiastically, sliding into a wooden chair at a corner table.
The shop was quaint, with mismatched chairs, the faint hum of soca music playing on a small radio, and the aroma of fried food wafting from the kitchen. Their plates arrived quickly: golden fish cakes, fluffy bakes, and a side of tangy pepper sauce.
Jadon took a bite and let out a delighted groan. “These fish cake fritters are amazing! Oh my god!”
Nadia laughed. “Almost as good as my father’s,” she said, savoring her own bite.
When the bill came, Jadon pulled out cash and left a generous tip on the table. Nadia raised an eyebrow. “A bit excessive, don’t you think?”
“Nah,” Jadon replied. “I’d rather spend it here. All the other places I’ve been to on the island overcharge like crazy. Here, we got excellent food for next to nothing. My small way of evening things out.”
She smiled, clearly touched by his gesture, and they stepped outside.
Jadon’s attention drifted back to the view below, the coastline stretching out in a mesmerizing blend of blues and greens. Nadia watched him, sensing he wasn’t quite ready to leave this magical place. With a mischievous grin, she snatched his keys from his hand and jumped into the driver’s seat of his Jimny.
“Let’s go!” she said with a laugh, her enthusiasm contagious.
Jadon shook his head with a chuckle and climbed into the passenger seat. She drove them to the far end of the bay, parking on the rugged hills above. From there, they walked down a narrow dirt track toward the water. The sea spray kissed their skin as they followed the winding path, eventually coming to a wooden bridge spanning a small stream that flowed into the sea.
Nadia paused, camera in hand, capturing the idyllic scene. “Jadon!” she called, her voice carrying over the sound of the waves.
He turned to her, and she clicked a few rapid shots, a smile spreading across her face as he shook his head and turned away, laughing.
The track opened into a clearing, revealing a pristine, secluded beach. “Wow,” Jadon said, scanning the untouched shoreline. “There’s nobody here.”
“No, not on this side, not this early,” Nadia replied, setting her camera down to take in the view.
Jadon didn’t wait. He walked into the water, letting it lap at his ankles, the coolness a welcome reprieve from the morning sun. He turned back to her. “Come on.”
She hesitated, glancing at her sneakers, but his reassuring gesture made her relent. She pulled off her shoes and joined him, the sand soft beneath her feet as they stepped carefully onto the rocky seabed.
Nadia instinctively took his hand for balance, and from that moment, neither let go. The tide was low so they walked out a bit.
“Look at that!” she said, pointing to a natural pool carved into the rocky seafloor, its clear waters teeming with colorful fish.
Jadon crouched to look, his excitement growing. “Wow! That’s awesome! I guess they’re stuck in there until the tide comes in.”
“How deep do you think it is?” she asked curiously.
“Don’t know,” Jadon replied with a mischievous grin. Then, without warning, he jumped in, splashing water everywhere.
Nadia shrieked in surprise, her hands flying to her mouth. “Oh my god, Jadon!”
He stood waist-deep in the pool, water streaming down his grinning face. “Come on, get in!” he said, extending his hand to her.
Undeterred, she shook her head with a laugh, took a deep breath, and jumped in after him. They both burst into laughter as the warm water enveloped them, Jadon’s hands steadying her as she found her footing.
Their laughter faded as their eyes locked. In that quiet moment, the world around them seemed to pause. Jadon reached up to brush a stray curl from her face, and Nadia leaned in, her lips meeting his in a kiss that felt as natural as the waves lapping around them.
The embrace lingered, the sound of the ocean their only witness.
The kiss deepened as Jadon and Nadia stood in the natural pool, the water gently lapping against their bodies. The morning sunlight danced on the surface, casting shimmering reflections on their faces. Her hands slid up to his shoulders as his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer. For a moment, it felt as though time had stopped, the beauty of their surroundings mirroring the intensity of their connection.
Nadia pulled back slightly, her forehead resting against his. “This feels… unreal,” she whispered, her voice soft and full of wonder.
Jadon smiled, brushing his thumb along her cheek. “It’s just us and the ocean,” he murmured, his tone matching hers.
Their lips met again, this time slower, more deliberate. The warmth between them was electric, and the seclusion of the beach made the world beyond feel irrelevant. They sank together into the shallows of the pool, the water buoying their movements as they stayed locked in their embrace.
His hands explored her figure, sending heated shockwaves through her body. He unbuttoned her denim shorts sliding his fingers between her legs. She gasped, then moaned, she was ready and warm. Nadia leaned back slightly, her hands trailing down his arms. She pulled his submerged shorts down sliding him gently inside her. Her warmth caressed him, making him even stronger. She began to gyrate, he matched her rhythm and pace. Their bodies one, in a weightless cocoon. Their movements were unhurried, each touch an unspoken expression of trust and desire. The pool, with its clear waters and natural boundaries, seemed to cradle them, offering privacy and a sense of serenity.
Later, they sat naked in the shallow pool, the seawater soothing their skin as they gazed up at the bright sky. Nadia rested her head on Jadon’s chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat.
“This wasn’t what I had planned for today,” she admitted with a small giggle.
Jadon chuckled, his hand running through her damp curls. “Sometimes the best moments are the ones unplanned.”
She tilted her head up to look at him, her eyes soft. “You’re right. This feels… perfect.”
He smiled, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “Because it is,” he whispered.
The two stayed there a while longer, letting the moment linger before the world could intrude. Eventually, Nadia climbed out of the pool, shaking water from her hair.
“We should probably head back before the tide comes in,” she said reluctantly, though her smile hinted she wasn’t quite ready to leave.
Jadon nodded but reached for her hand. “Not yet,” he said and pulled her back in. She could not resist as they started again.
